After getting roasted in our LpB – La p’tite Brûlerie shop, these Colombian beans produce a delicious coffee characterized by apricot and stone fruit flavors, lively acidity, and a honeyed body.
The Paez people (also known as the Nasa, “the people”) are the largest group of Indigenous peoples in Colombia. Our partner, the Fondo Paez Cooperative, was founded in 1992, with the objective of recovering traditional agricultural knowledge and Indigenous culture that had been buried by centuries of conflict and oppression. In this region located in the remote and mountainous areas of Caucala, the main cash crop is coffee. These coffee beans from Fondo Paez are now recognized and awarded as a 90+ coffee in local and international tasting competitions.
We are inspired by Fondo Paez’ sustainable vision for their communities. Their vision is remarkable, and their successes are extraordinary considering the Colombian political context and globalization. From the Spanish Conquest several centuries ago, to the armed conflict that raged on their territory, the Paez people continue to struggle for their livelihood, their land, and their right to self-determination.
